Cosmetic Lip Surgery Risks

Cosmetic lip surgery is a procedure that needs to be studied and practiced by professional surgeons. This is not your basic run-of-the-mill procedure that is used to make your lips fat or thin. There are steps and proper protocols that need to be followed before, during, and after the surgery. So you can imagine the different risks one must take when “going under the knife”. After all, depending on the procedure, “going under the knife” is actually quite literal.

Financial

First of all, it goes without saying that anybody considering cosmetic lip surgery should know the financial risk. The overall procedure can cost one up to $5000 in fees and medicines. Now that is not a figure to laugh at and if you do experience a botched surgery or if it results in a look that you don’t quite like after all, then think of the money that was lost. For anybody about to go through the procedure, think more than twice before shelling out the big bucks.

Physical

More than anything else, cosmetic lip surgery is something that will change your life forever. First and foremost, this means in the physical aspect. Those going under the knife are about to make major changes to their own physical appearance and this means that risks are quite high. Like any other form of surgery, cosmetic lip surgery can result in bleeding and later infection. Swelling is definitely something that will take place and the success of the swelling going away also has a small ratio. Those who go through with it also go through the high risk of scarring and this is something that many people tend to overlook. Imagine that the surgery ends up leaving a scar on your face. This will result in you either living with it and suffering, or you having to spend more money just to hide that scar through another plastic surgery procedure. An uncommon risk also involves the lips rejecting implants. This means that the implants must be removed because a patient will risk infection by leaving it in their lips. The same implants also tend to migrate or move so you can also expect the risk of having lips that are not properly aligned.

Emotional

Cosmetic lip surgery is mostly a vain pursuit. Most people who go through it do not even need it to begin with. They just go through it to become more beautiful and more desired in society. However, this kind of pursuit does not go without its own emotional risks. The risk is that a person will experienced a failed surgery that will leave him or her looking more undesirable than he or she originally was. This can take a large toll on someone’s emotional state and can cause many feelings of anger, frustration, depression, loss, and failure. These conditions will affect the way a person functions in life, and so a simple procedure like cosmetic lip surgery can be quite dangerous not only physically, but also psychologically. This is another aspect of the procedure that one must take into consideration before actually going through with it.
